Integration Options with Zalion (Overview)

Zalion integrates flexibly into existing enterprise environments — whether ERP, SRM, email, or file systems. All data exchange is encrypted, auditable, and fully isolated per customer within Zalion's AWS environment (eu-central-1).

Depending on your system landscape and requirements, three fundamental integration methods are available:

1. Cloud-Based API Integration

Zalion connects directly to your cloud systems via secure API interfaces. This method offers real-time read and write access, full control over data scopes and permissions, and trigger- or schedule-based interaction.

Typical authentication: OAuth 2.0, API keys, or custom tokens

Recommended for: Modern cloud systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) where real-time interaction and full integration depth are required.

2. File-Based Integration

Zalion supports secure file-based data exchange via SFTP servers, network folders (SMB/NAS), or SharePoint/OneDrive. Exchange typically follows a fixed schedule (e.g., 4× daily) in formats such as XML, JSON, or CSV.

Typical authentication: SSH keys (SFTP), network credentials, or OAuth 2.0 via Microsoft Entra ID (SharePoint)

Recommended for: On-premise systems (e.g., SAP ECC, Navision) or environments where API integration is not possible.

3. Middleware Integration

Organizations using integration platforms such as Boomi, MuleSoft, SnapLogic, Lobster, or myOpenFactory can connect Zalion via secure middleware endpoints. This leverages existing transformation logic and routing.

Typical authentication: Tokens, keys, or signed payloads

Recommended for: Organizations with standardized IT architectures or complex system landscapes.

Comparison Table

Integration Method System Type Real-Time Capable Access Requirement Encryption
API Integration Cloud systems Yes Firewall whitelisting, OAuth TLS 1.3
SFTP File Exchange On-premise/Cloud No (batch) SFTP credentials & IP whitelist AES-256
Network Folder Access On-premise systems No (batch) Folder access & IP whitelist Internal policy
SharePoint/OneDrive Microsoft 365 Limited (webhooks) or batch Entra ID admin consent TLS 1.2+/1.3 & OAuth 2.0
Middleware Hybrid/Cloud/On-premise Depends on configuration Middleware endpoint Platform-dependent

Core Principles

All integration options follow Zalion's core principles:

  • Isolated data environments per customer
  • End-to-end encryption (AES-256 / TLS 1.3)
  • Strict access control (RBAC, IP filtering, auditing)
  • Jointly defined data contracts (file structure, access windows, frequency)

We work closely with your IT and procurement teams to define the most suitable integration path — with security and compliance always at the center.
